I am trying to do at least one creative thing a day. Sometimes a project can take more than one day, and that is fine. I decided to do a pastel drawing of a saltwater aquarium. I like the corals and rocks better than I like the fish. I need to get some harder pastels so I can do small details to things like fish.

Maybe I will get back into Magic the Gathering

I’ve been in and out of MtG about since its beginning. I would get a bunch of cards, play, get tired of it, sell the cards and then want to get back into it, buy cards, get tired of it, sell the cards…you get the picture.  I do regret ever selling the cards. Lord only knows how many I would have.

I bought two card boxes from Books, Comics and Things in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I got bored, so I decided to decorate them.
The first box, I went with a Scottish theme. I had some Scottie dog pattern templates from a stationary set I bought several years ago. I then did a freehand Tartan pattern. I colored the rest of the box blue. I do have badly drawn Scottish flags at the ends, but those will probably be colored in and then redone with an acrylic paint in white over that. All was done with Sharpies.

I also did a Lupus butterfly theme. This one isn’t done. I’m not sure what I want to do with the sides yet.

I swear, this blog is feast or famine. Either I neglect it for weeks or I gather up all the creative things I’ve done over those weeks or months without posting and then put them all on here.

Rearranged my studio and wondering what to do for NaNoWriNo

After months of nagging myself, I finally rearranged my studio area.  I deep cleaned the area, vacuuming and shampooing the carpet. I put my desk in the back corner and dragged the nifty drafting table I scored for $5 at a yard sale. I arranged my most used books on the antique bookshelf/letter box thing. I covered the cork boards with fabric to make them look a bit more colorful and bright. I also arranged the supplies so they’d be easy to grab. All I have to do is organize the big black bookshelf of books and it will be done. My body is soooooo sore from doing all that. It is rebelling in every way and is not allowing me to do much today.  I forced myself to finish some projects that I had set aside for a very long time, so I guess I should pat myself on the back for that.

Mercury in Retrograde–finishing up old stuff

Mercury in Retrograde usually kicks my ass. If I’m going to get super sick or flare out badly, this is the time it happens. So far my ulcerative colitis has been acting up pretty badly today. =( I hope that it won’t continue into a long flare.

There were quite a few pastel drawings that I started ages ago, but got frustrated and put them aside. Some have been in unfinished mode for a few years. I decided to finish them up. They’re studies, of course, so I don’t see myself putting any of these in a frame. They’ll just remain in the drawing pad like a diary.

You may recognize this pekingese pastel from another post. A friend of mine who is an art professor had suggested I add highlights, so I did.

This is a pastel of my Zoe Zlata. It’s not the best artwork I’ve ever done, but at least it’s finished and I can use it to compare progress whenever I draw or paint something else of my dog.

I long ago lost the reference photo for this pastel, so I just went ahead and made it cartoony.

I do have a page that has two small flowers for a colored pencil study, but I didn’t really think it was worth taking a photo and posting.  I may go to the Botanical Gardens in Fort Wayne and/or Chicago to fill that page up.
